Mike Pelfrey, who pitched seven and two-thirds innings, neutralized an equally dominant performance by Milwaukee’s ace, Yovani Gallardo, who struck out 12.
Mets Manager Jerry Manuel had “just a little family talk” with his team afterward, keeping the clubhouse closed for 28 minutes before allowing reporters to enter.
A consultation with a noted orthopedic surgeon confirms Carlos Beltran has only bone bruises in his right knee. He could be ready when the Mets open the second half July 16.
Fernando Martinez has been one of the Mets’ best prospects since he signed with the club in 2005, but Jerry Manuel needs to be mindful of the pressures on the young player.
Mariano Rivera, the player who teammate Derek Jeter says defines consistency, celebrated his 500th career save in the same matter-of-fact way that he shuts down opposing batters.
Despite losing the soul of the team, the Mets are said to be playing with more heart than the Yankees. The argument is defined by perception, not reality.
Yankees starter A.J. Burnett threw his signature curveball at will and to devastating effect against a diluted Mets team that has been held hitless in 12 of their last 27 innings.
C. C. Sabathia pitched seven scintillating innings for the Yankees, while the Mets committed three errors, all in the second inning, in a lopsided game at Citi Field.
A weak resale market has a growing number of Mets and Yankees season-ticket holders considering whether to drop their seats next year, or switch to a plan with fewer games or cheaper seats.

MILWAUKEE -- It might have been the most scrutinized bus ride in Mets history. The trip from their hotel to Miller Park lasted less than 10 minutes, but the Mets' players couldn't stop talking about the team-building exercise ordered by Jerry...
The postgame team meeting the night before and Wednesday morning's bus ride to Miller Park got most of the attention, but it was Mike Pelfrey's 7 2/3 scoreless innings that made the difference for the Mets in a badly needed 1-0 win over the Brewers.
From JOEL SHERMAN
Someone is going to have to remind me who was providing all that great leadership with the Mets back in John Franco's days with the team. As for the 2009 Mets, I actually think they have added a couple of tough-minded players in Alex Cora, Livan Hernandez and Francisco Rodriguez, and perhaps even Gary Sheffield (pictured). This is not about tough minds nearly as much as fragile bodies and poor roster construction.
MILWAUKEE -- As much as Jerry Manuel wanted to credit the team meeting he called Tuesday night for the Mets' 1-0 win over the Brewers yesterday, there was one small problem: Mike Pelfrey wasn't at the meeting. So much for fiery pep talks...

MILWAUKEE -- The bumbling, stumbling Mets will turn to Mike Pelfrey here this afternoon against the Brewers in hopes of snapping a five-game losing streak.
MILWAUKEE -- The Mets went from bad to comical Tuesday night in dropping their fifth in a row. Their epically awful defense in the Brewers' four-run fourth inning paved the way for a 6-3 loss to Milwaukee going into this afternoon's finale here.
The Mets defeated the Pirates by the score of 9-to-8 this afternoon.

Prior to yesterday’s game against the Brewers, the Mets did not take batting practice and all of their normal pre game activities, instead arriving at Miller Park all together on a team bus.

…i had a wisdom tooth pulled around 12 hours ago… so, if i sound like Don Corleone, you’ll know why…
BMF couldn't have been prouder of our boy Mike Pelfrey for putting the entire NY Met franchise on his back and carrying us to victory!
Pelf applied a tourniquet to the bleeding artery that's become the Mets season with his dominant performance of 0ER, 6H 2BB 6K in 7.2 IP. It may unravel again today in Pittsburgh but for at least one morning things aren't quite so desperate in Metland.
In fact, I think we may look back at yesterday's game being a pivotal moment in the career of the Big Pelf. To me it felt like he officially stepped into the role of true #2 starter.

Incredibly we somehow find ourselves once again just TWO games out of first place!
I almost can't wrap my brain around that fact. BMF isn't old enough to remember what the '73 season was like but I think we're re-living it right now.
I've been hearing a lot of chatter from Met fans lately, "I'm done with this team", "Time for Jet Season", blah, blah, blah… Sorry folks but you can't give up on a team that's only 2 games out of first. I don't care how bad they've sucked.

Wassup with John Franco throwing D-Wright under the bus like that?!?!?
In case you missed it Franco went on SIRIUS XM and spoke about the Mets, "there's no leadership there. Nobody wants to step forward and be a leader."
And about Wright, "I tried talking to him and tell him to come forward and be that guy, but I think David feels that being that he's such a young player and you have the Delgados and Sheffields and veteran guys like that, he's afraid that they'll look at him like, 'Be quiet and sit down.' "
Huh???
I dunno that's kinda weird territory Franco's treading on. I mean Johnny was always a huge fan favorite, and native NY'er, so does he really want to be the guy dissing the franchise and David Wright of all people???
Especially considering Franco left with a "clubhouse lawyer" rap (warranted or not ) that was bestowed on him and Leiter.
Look Johnny, BMF loves ya' but could you please keep those private convos with Wright - private?
Nobody wins from a negative interview like that. Wright and the Mets look like mutts and Franco comes off as an angry and meddling retiree.
